10 Goals to Set Yourself for 2019

Updated: Jan 17, 2019

It's that time of the year when everyone is thinking of New Years resolutions and what they want to conquer next year. Christmas is around the corner and we currently have 2 weeks to prepare ourselves for entering 2019 and to decide what goals we want to smash.

Some people like me (I'm getting better at planning ahead) may have already decided what their personal goals will be however, these are some general goals everyone should try to achieve next year.

1. BE PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUR GOALS

We all talk about these 'goals' or things we want to achieve but honestly how many of us can say we work everyday on trying to achieve them? I will admit I am the person who is motivated but doesn't spend time every single day working towards my goals. In 2019 its time to stop saying and start doing!

2. EXERCISE MORE

January is fast approaching which means every gym will be packed with people who's New Years Resolution is to get fit. If you are one of those people who already exercise routinely good for you, you can skip this section. However if you are the other side of that spectrum its time to take more care of our bodies, we start off great for a month but after that we become lazy, also not everyone enjoys the gym (myself included). YouTube have some great home workouts so there are no excuses. Exercise is more than just looking good, its about creating self discipline and releasing those endorphins that are going to keep us positive in the New Year.

3. LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE

Next year pick a language you've always wanted to speak and spend 30 minutes a day learning it. Duolingo is a great app and also gives you reminder notifications so you don't forget. Imagine how fluent you would be after 365 days of learning a new language.

4. BECOME A BETTER PERSON

We all have weaknesses or areas of our personality we'd like to change in order to be the best version of ourselves. You may already think you know your weaknesses however hearing them from someone else will really encourage you to make those changes. Today I dare you to send a message to the 5 people you are closest to in your life and ask them to give you some constructive criticism, ask them to be brutally honest. Take this feedback and start working on improving yourself.

5. LEARN TO SAY NO

As humans our nature is to help others, it's always nice to help a friend in need and put some good karma into the universe. Simultaneously we can often hinder our own success by always saying yes, 2019 is a year to be selfish with your time and make sure you put your own goals, projects or interests first.

6. CREATE A SAVINGS GOAL

This year decide how much you want to have saved by this time in 2019 and decide what you are saving for. Whether its a holiday or a deposit for a house, no matter how big or small decide exactly how much you need to save and make yourself commit to sticking to a budget.

7. READ MORE BOOKS

Personal development is a major key for 2019, to help keep yourself inspired and motivated write down a list of books you've been meaning to read all year but never started. Aim to read one book per month and see how much you learn.

8. GO ON MORE ADVENTURES

As cheesy as it sounds the world really is your oyster, make a pact with yourself to adventure more in 2019. This can be travelling to different countries or doing something you've always wanted to do like climbing a mountain, sky diving or even just going to your local museum. Keep yourself occupied by getting away from the norm and doing something new every month.

9. TAKE ON A NEW HOBBY

What did you used to enjoy doing as a child? What new skill would you like to learn next year? Decide on a new hobby that you are passionate about and invest your time and money into it. We get so caught up in our daily routines that we sometimes forget life is for living.

10. LOOK AFTER YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

Mental Health has always been a big subject but year upon year we are seeing a rise in people with depression or anxiety, no amount of wealth can help if your mind isn't healthy. Start doing mediation, go for a 30 minute walk, stop bottling up your feelings. Whatever makes you happy do more of that and ensure 2019 is a positive year for you.
